We are pleased to inform that ABS has recently been awarded a major contract in the Québec region. Over the coming months, we will be working with the Île d’Orléans Heritage Group consortium (composed of EBC and Dragados Canada) as part of the geotechnical data collection campaign for the design of the new Île d’Orléans Bridge, which will span 2.1 km.

This is an exceptional geotechnical and geophysical project: 52 geotechnical boreholes, 25 cone penetration tests (CPT and seismic CPT), optical and acoustic geo-camera surveys, dilatometer testing, and over 1,000 laboratory tests. The boreholes at the central piers of the bridge will need to reach depths of approximately 125 meters. At this location, the river depth is about 15 meters, beneath which lies a massive soil layer up to 77 meters thick before reaching bedrock. The technical challenge of reaching the bedrock will therefore be considerable.

To meet this challenge, our teams will work day and night from floating barges on the Saint Lawrence River.

ABS will also carry out 34 N-size core control boreholes to validate the quality of the bedrock before the installation of the piles that will support the bridge’s load.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to securing this signature project for the Québec region and wish the team responsible for its execution all the success.
